  • We are all happy that gas prices have remained fairly low, but you can save even more money with this one simple car maintenance tip. KEEP YOUR TIRES PROPERLY INFLATED!

Improper tire inflation is one of the most neglected vehicle maintenance items for motorists. In fact – in a recent survey – the Rubber Manufactures Association states that only 19% of vehicle owners properly check the tire pressure. Yet – according to the Department of Energyproperly inflated tires can improve gas mileage by around 3.3 percent and save 9 cents per gallon at the gas pump! That could add up to a lot of money over a year’s time.

Tire pressure should be checked at least once per month. The best time to check the tire inflation is when the vehicle has been sitting for a while. Driving heats up the tire and expands the air pressure and could give you a false reading. Today’s vehicles are all equipped with tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS). The TPMS will alert you if the tires are not set to proper inflation.

In addition, keeping your tires properly inflated will keep the tires from wearing out prematurely. Nobody likes spending money on new tires.
