  • On June 25th, Sullivan Tire teamed with Yokohama, KaBOOM!, the Town of Rockland, and Play Areas for Rockland Kids (P.A.R.K.) to build a brand new playground at Hartsuff Park in a single day for the children and families of Rockland, Mass. and other surrounding communities.

The planning for this playground build began late last year during our 60th Anniversary. When it came to choosing the town to have the playground build, Rockland was an easy decision for us to make. Sullivan Tire was founded in Rockland by Bob “The Chef” Sullivan, and it’s where our first store was and still is located. This was a great way to thank the town that has allowed us to be a part of the community for 60 years.

A “Design Day” was held back in April with the Rockland community, Yokohama, KaBOOM!, and Sullivan Tire to begin the process of creating an ideal playground.

This vision came together due to a wonderful cast of about 287 smiling volunteers. It was a very busy day filled with mixing and pouring concrete, hauling mulch, painting park benches, and assembling the actual playground structures.

Thank you to all the volunteers, Yokohama, KaBOOM!, the town of Rockland, P.A.R.K., and everyone who lent a hand in creating this wonderful new space for children and families of all abilities to enjoy!

  • Giving Tuesday

There’s Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. Now there is a day for people to give back – Giving Tuesday.

#GivingTuesday is a campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the holiday season. “In the same way that retail stores take part in Black Friday, we want the giving community to come together for #GivingTuesday… It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support non-profit organizations.”

One of #GivingTuesday’s partners is The Friendship Home, in Norwell, MA, just a few miles from Sullivan Tire’s corporate office. The Friendship Home is “a facility for individuals with developmental disabilities that specifically addressed the need for quality respite care and opportunities for these special individuals to build the necessary work and personal relationships as well as the skills to allow them to lead productive and rewarding lives.”

For #GivingTuesday, the Friendship Home is collecting donations to help cover the costs associated with overnight respite program. “The program provides opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to stay with us for up to 14 nights, learning new skills, enjoying a sense of independence and spending time with friends. Their families are able to take advantage of the much needed respite from the daily demands of caring for a loved one with disabilities.”

Please click here to contribute to the Friendship Home’s #GivingTuesday initiative. All donations up to $25,000 will be matched dollar for dollar by The Calipari Foundation thanks to the generosity of John Calipari, head coach of the acclaimed Kentucky Wildcats!
In order to be eligible for the match, we must receive all donations
    by midnight on December 2nd.

The holidays are a wonderful time to give back to the community, and #GivingTuesday provides great visibility to charities and organizations in need.

Will you be participating in #GivingTuesday this year? How will you contribute?

  • Today’s guest blog comes from the Friendship Home.

Friendship Home in Norwell held its 15th Annual Golf Classic on September 11th at Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston, with net proceeds totaling more than $105,000. More than 200 golfers participated at both Indian Pond and Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth in support of Friendship Home’s mission to enrich the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Attendees took time to acknowledge the events of 9/11 with a Knights of Columbus Honor Guard and moments of remembrance.

This year’s Golf Classic Committee was led by co-chairs Bill and Stephani Dromeshauser of Norwell. “Steph and I are honored to support such a wonderful organization right here in our hometown. We are very proud of the work that Friendship Home does to support people with special needs,” Dromeshauser said. More than 50 volunteers made the event possible, including dozens from Rockland Trust, a steadfast and loyal community partner.

Program members enjoyed playing golf, photographing the event, participating in a putting clinic and hosting the hospitality hole. Hundreds of golfers and friends attended the evening program, which included speeches by program members Celia Walsh and J.R. Foley as well as dinner, auctions and raffles. “If I was to bet on which staff team would impact the lives of people with developmental disabilities, I’d put all my money on the Friendship Home staff,” Foley said.
