“Josh at the Lynn, MA Sullivan Tire was very, very helpful in my recent visit regarding winter tires.”
December is Tire Safety Month! We strive to help educate motorists and our customers on proper tire care and maintenance year-round, but we wanted to highlight tire safety to support this country-wide initiative.
Maintaining proper inflation pressure is crucial for getting the most out of your tires, both in long mileage and a comfortable ride. Air pressure is measured in psi (pounds per square inch) and should be adjusted when the tires are “cold”, which means check it early in the morning or after the vehicle has been sitting for at least 3 hours. If you need to adjust for a “warm” tire, simply add 2-4 psi to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended cold inflation pressure, and check the cold inflation pressure at your earliest convenience. Even a perfectly healthy tire loses 1-2 psi per month, so it’s important to check your pressures often. Get your tire repaired at the first sign of a leak or nailhole puncture. Remember, running your tires underinflated also means that you are overloading them, which can do permanent damange. Stop by any Sullivan Tire for a complimentary air pressure check and adjustment. Come as often as you like, no appointment necessary!
A bad jolt from hitting a curb or pothole can throw your front end out of alignment and damage your tires if not corrected promptly. Have your alignment checked at least 1-2 times per year, or at the first sign of the vehicle not tracking straight when driving on a straight stretch of road (a.k.a. “pulling”). When you purchase our Tire Maintenance and Protection Plan (TMPP), you get a complimentary alignment check every 6 months for the life of the tires!
Regularly rotating your tires will help you achieve more uniform wear. Unless your vehicle’s owners manual has a specific recommendation, the guideline for tire rotation is approximately every 5,000-7,000 miles, or roughly every other oil change. Frequent tire rotations and tire inspections can help to identify an alignment or steering problem before too much damage occurs to the tire. This service is complimentary for the life of the tires when you purchase our Tire Maintenance and Protection Plan (TMPP).
A tread depth guage is an inexpensive and effective tool for measuring the amount of tread left on your tires. Hydroplaining can occur even at low speeds if the tread is not deep enough to channel the water from under your tires. The tread depth measurement is taken in 32nds of an inch, and should be taken from the tread grooves at three different areas of the tread (inner, center, and outside). If any part of the tread is at or below 2/32″ depth, the Department of Transportation (DOT) considers the tire as having reached the end of it’s useful life and should be replaced.

This Peppermint Bark is an easy to make recipe and perfect for the holiday season! You can serve it at a festive party or even package it up as a gift! Recipe courtesy of Southern Fairytale.
- 10 mini candy canes, crushed (about 1/2 cup)
- 12 Oreos, chopped (about 1 cup)
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips (or semi-sweet)
- 1 ½ cups white chocolate chips
Line a cookie sheet with wax paper. Add milk chocolate chips to a microwave safe bowl and heat in 30 second increments, stirring after each, until melted and smooth.
Pour onto prepared cookie sheet and spread flat. Sprinkle with chopped Oreos. Chill for 10 minutes.
Add white chocolate chips to a microwave safe bowl and heat on 50% power in 30 second increments, stirring after each, until melted and smooth. (I use 50% power for white chocolate because it’s so temperamental!)
Pour over Oreos and spread to the edges of the milk chocolate. Sprinkle with chopped candy canes. Chill until set, break into pieces and serve or package to give!

‘Tis the season for Holiday sweets and treats! These Snowman Oreo Balls are perfect for any Holiday party or just to snack on at home. Recipe courtesy of The Girl Who Ate Everything.
Prep time: 40 mins
Total time: 40 mins

- 1 pkg. (8 oz.) brick cream cheese, softened
- 36 OREO Cookies (regular size), finely crushed
- 16 oz. vanilla candy wafers, melted
- 48 Mini OREO Bite Size Cookies
- Decorations: decorating icing or gel; multi-colored sprinkles
Mix cream cheese and cookie crumbs until well blended. I like to crush the Oreos in a food processor and then add the cream cheese and process it together. It can also be done by hand though.
Shape into 48 (1-inch) balls; place in single layer in shallow pan. Freeze for at least 20 minutes. They can be frozen for longer. Dip balls in melted coating; I do this by using a fork and tapping the fork on the bowl of my candy coating to remove some of the extra coating. Place in shallow waxed paper-lined pan, allowing excess coating to pool at bottom of each ball. Decorate with remaining ingredients as shown in photo. You can use the candy coating to adhere the hat to the head.
Refrigerate 1 hour or until firm. Keep refrigerated. Notes: I have used almond bark before to dip these but found that the candy wafers work better. Sometimes when you dip the balls the Oreos can leave some crumbs in the coating but the wafers tend to do this way less.

There’s Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. Now there is a day for people to give back – Giving Tuesday.
#GivingTuesday is a campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the holiday season. “In the same way that retail stores take part in Black Friday, we want the giving community to come together for #GivingTuesday… It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support non-profit organizations.”
One of #GivingTuesday’s partners is The Friendship Home, in Norwell, MA, just a few miles from Sullivan Tire’s corporate office. The Friendship Home is “a facility for individuals with developmental disabilities that specifically addressed the need for quality respite care and opportunities for these special individuals to build the necessary work and personal relationships as well as the skills to allow them to lead productive and rewarding lives.”
For #GivingTuesday, the Friendship Home is collecting donations to help cover the costs associated with overnight respite program. “The program provides opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to stay with us for up to 14 nights, learning new skills, enjoying a sense of independence and spending time with friends. Their families are able to take advantage of the much needed respite from the daily demands of caring for a loved one with disabilities.”
Please click here to contribute to the Friendship Home’s #GivingTuesday initiative. All donations up to $25,000 will be matched dollar for dollar by The Calipari Foundation thanks to the generosity of John Calipari, head coach of the acclaimed Kentucky Wildcats!
In order to be eligible for the match, we must receive all donations
by midnight on December 2nd.
The holidays are a wonderful time to give back to the community, and #GivingTuesday provides great visibility to charities and organizations in need.
Will you be participating in #GivingTuesday this year? How will you contribute?
