  • Today’s #FoodieFriday is a double feature: two recipes that will be perfect for your upcoming Fourth of July celebrations (programming note: Foodie Friday will be on vacation next week with the rest of the country). Both of these recipes come courtesy of the Sullivan Tire corporate office: Beth’s Turkey Burgers and Chelsey’s Pasta Salad!

    Let’s start with the burgers…

    Ingredients:

    • 1 package of Ground Turkey (all white)
    • 1 scallion (chopped)
    • ½ cup Feta
    • Fresh spinach (1/2 bag)
    • Shitake Mushrooms (u can use any kind)
    • 1 garlic clove (minced)
    • 1 egg
    • 1 cup Panko crumbs (can use more or less)
    • Paprike
    • Mango Chutney (I use stonewall brand)

    Directions:

    • Saute the garlic, mushrooms for a few mins, then add the spinach until wilted. Allow to COOL.
    • In large bowl, add turkey and all ingredients. Mix well with HANDS!
    • Cook burgers in skillet or on grill. (I usually sprinkle them with some paprika to brown them.)
    • Serve burgers topped with some chutney. You can eat them with or without the bread. (I serve mine with a chopped tomato and avocado salad and grilled asparagus.)

And now for the pasta salad:

    Ingredients

    • Pasta (You can use any pasta, I usually use linguine or bow ties)
    • Wisebone Italian Dressing (Zesty Italian is good too!)
    • Red peppers, chopped
    • Green pepper, chopped
    • Yellow pepper, chopped
    • Cucumber, chopped
    • Tomato, chopped
    • (Any other desired veggies!)
    • McCormick’s Salad Supreme seasoning

    Directions.

    • Cook pasta as directed, then cool with cold water.
    • In a large mixing bowl, add the cool pasta, all of the veggies and dress with about half a bottle of dressing. Finally, add half a container of the McCormicks seasoning.

What are you making for your Fourth of July celebrations? Did you try last week’s Southwestern Black Bean Salad? (I did! I added some quinoa to the recipe and have been enjoying it every week for lunch) What did you think?

  • It has been a very exciting two weeks for soccer fans! The FIFA world cup continues on, with the last matchups of the first round happening this week. And today, the US will face off against Germany, one of the worlds best teams. We must win or tie if we want to continue to round 16.

    US vs Germany World Cup

For the United States, these games have shown that they are not a team that should be looked past. In their first game vs Ghana, the United States’ Clint Dempsey set a record for the quickest goal in a world cup for any US team.  The US eventually prevailed to beat Ghana 2-1 and moved on to play Portugal (and one of the game’s best players in Cristiano Ronaldo.) Ronaldo showed how great he was in what would be the last seconds of the game,  sending a perfect cross field pass that connected with the head of Varela to tie the game at 2-2.

Today’s game against Germany kicks off at 12pm, and the anticipation surrounding the event is palpable! With record setting ratings so far, it’s safe to assume that today’s game will be the most watched by far. Especially if fans use Coach Klinsmann’s note …

Are you watching the game this afternoon? Did you bring Coach Klinsmann’s note to your boss? Did it work!? Will we win today? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

  • Foodie Friday

Today we wanted to share a fun summer recipe we’re planning trying out this weekend: southwestern black bean salad.  This bright salad makes a great side dish or an appetizer if you serve it with some chips. It can also be served with grilled meat and tortillas.

  • 2014 FIFA World Cup

Tonight, all eyes are on the US and how they will fare in their upcoming quest for the cup. This will not be an easy feat for the United States as they will have to face three very strong opponents in Ghana, Portugal and Germany to escape the first round of the tournament.  The U.S. has their first game vs Ghana at 6 pm tonight, and it’s a must win game for the boys in red and blue if they want to advance to later rounds. A win tonight will give the United States 3 points that will be much harder to get in games against Portugal and Germany.

One player who surprisingly did not make the final cut for the team this world cup was midfielder Landon Donovan. Donavon, who has been the face of the team for years and can be remembered for his beautiful performance in the last world cup, was one of the last players to be cut before the final roster was announced earlier this month.

So who will step up in his absence? All eyes now turn to goalkeeper Tim Howard and striker Josie Altidore to lead the United States. Howard, the last wall of defense for the US, needs to be brilliant which is a tough task when going up against two premiere offenses in Germany and Portugal. Josie Altidore also needs to bring his A-game on the other side of the field. When Josie is contributing to the United States’ offense they can truly be a legitimate threat.

Its sure looks like it is going to be a very exciting next couple of weeks for soccer fans. Who do you think will win it all? Can the Americans create a Cinderella story as they move on in hopes of winning a world cup? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Not have been going to have service work done on my family’s autos in years, I was pleasantly surprised the way I was treated at the Sandwich location. DJ and Ken were very professional and made me feel comfortable having work done. We have five cars in my family and will be customers at Sullivan Tire thanks to them.
